AIIM Processing & Devices Facility

Creating an Exciting Future in Multifunctional Materials

AIIM P&D logo156pixThe Australian Institute for Innovative Materials Processing & Devices Facility (AIIM P&D) is an Australian first. It will offer the innovative processes and facilities required to take multifunctional materials from fundamental research to proof of concept, using novel fabrication methods.

Funded by the Australian Government, the facility will be located on the state-of-the-art Innovation Campus with multi-million dollar investment focusing on nano-science and nano-technologies.

Read about our Background

Real-world research applications

The three key applications of electromaterials upon which we will focus are:

Health and Medical

the ground breaking area of medical bionics

Information Processing & Communications

Energy

the development of new electrode materials (including generation, conversion, transport and storage)

World-class Facilities & equipment

The AIIM P&D Facility will house world-class equipment and facilities, and will involve the development of Synthesis/Processing "machinery" focused on:

  • Fabrication
  • Workshops & Engineering Design
  • Organic Synthesis
  • Materials Processing

Opportunities

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is rated as one of Australia’s best performing research institutions and prides itself on a long history of successful research collaborations and commercial partnerships with industry. Leading UOW research areas are linked with a significant list of national and international external partners and have potential for exciting commercial applications.

In addition, The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (ACES) through its constituent institutes, has established a national and international multi-disciplinary collaborative network.

The AIIM P&D Facility presents opportunities to engage new partners in collaborative projects, from the secondment of staff to the input of expertise. In addition, there will be opportunities for new partners to invest in new age machinery, facilities and expertise, and share in returns generated from products and new machinery.
