Wearable Bionic Devices

We want to help solve the biggest problems facing the world and facing society.  There can be no bigger problem facing society than those that accompany the societal impacts of ageing.

The world’s changing demographic mix may have the potential to create more disruption to the planet than even climate change.  By 2050 the United Nations estimates that the world’s population aged 65 years and over will have more than doubled to more than 350 million older people.

As we age, we tend to have a significant reliance on health procedures. Orthopaedics is one of the key drivers for hospital visits for the elderly.  These visits tend to last on average, 5 days.

We know that there is already considerable strain on the hospital system.  The increased demand for hospital beds because of orthopaedic problems, most commonly knee and hip replacement operations, will have huge economic impact as well as being extremely discomforting for those in greatest need.

To help solve this problem, we are developing relationships with several industry partners to develop concepts and financing for a class of wearable medical devices that will be of great significance in treating elderly people.  Our focus is initially on developing devices that enable accelerated post-operative recovery and improved diagnostics.  These devices will enable knee replacement patients to return to mobility faster, clinicians to provide improved care and the health care system to generally increase productivity.

ACES researchers know that by understanding the economic drivers of the marketplace we can focus research and accelerate development.

Our philosophy is to maximise the speed with which products can be brought to market, and apply our know how to create the IP that will provide our industry partners with differentiation while positively impacting society.
